Behavioral Issues
One of the main reasons several animals are returned within 72 hours to shelters after adoption, is due to Behavioral Issues.
With a little understanding and patience these issues can be ironed out - the most common issue is based on the fact that when an animal is in unfamiliar surroundings, amongst strangers and has been jumped from a vehicle to a noisy unfamiliar shelter, to a caged environment and handled by strangers - they can and do take on a defensive character - because they feel cornered and afraid.... Aside from apparent aggressive behaviors, Separation Anxiety, comes second in line. If you are presently going through behavioral issues with a new 4 legged family member, call your local SPCA or Humane Society - who can direct you to someone that will give you immediate advice or even set up an appointment with a behaviorist to lend a hand.
