Notations
For many years, we asked for a system that was fair to animals and a general law enforcement that was fair to pet owners. We demanded more concern to issues concerning animal abuse. We requested the banning of Breed Specific Legislation and to seek justice over any breed that would attack or harm a person. We asked for a more humane system that helped animals in need and re-homed animals that were homeless - and we got it all!!! Every single bit of it!
The system that has gained our favor is the system used in Calgary, Alberta. Canada. The links to the right are for your review, should you be interested in taking some time aside to watch a 90 minute video, of an actual private, in counsel government , presentation put on by Bill Bruce, Director of Animal Control in Calgary, Alberta. For years prior to the program that was initiated in Calgary, we based our regulations on similar approaches. While the program is living proof that it works, not enough facilities are reforming their approach to animal care, because there is no pressure to do so. Animals are still viewed as dispensable, replaceable and reproduction has no legal hindrances. To change this train of thought through leadership of respectable laws,. we take the first step to evolving into a No Kill Status. We at No Kill Advocates Union, we believe that in numbers, we can diplomatically be a part of that evolution. Change is inevitable, however long over due, hindered by exploiting movements. Those who have learned the busy intake status quotas of shelters/pounds or rescues, knows that for every 100 that are euthanized, adopted or fostered, there's an immediate 100 more to take their place... And though this is fact, we base our movement on the knowledge that there was a human involved in the failure of responsibility, towards a homeless animal... a breakdown of communication. To mend this, is to begin a new era..... |

The Calgary Model: targets no BSL, just dangerous dogs by their actions... |
Study after study has demonstrated the many benefits that animals render into people's lives, therefore we are left to wonder - why - so many enter shelters every day of the year!
Companion animals are part of the family! They are an extension of our lives and like children, we do not own them, we love them.... Dogs and Cats, have very unique traits and characters, yet are very much alike. They bring love and laughter, companionship and an additional sense of value into every living minute of our days. To some, this is not the experience attained with companion animal care, therefore surrender or abandonment becomes an option. Let's face it, not everyone is intended to be a companion animal caretaker. If a person has cared enough to try, but somehow, tropical fish, or an exotic bird just fit the bill perfectly - we must consider that not all people are suitable to have a dog or cat.... Most of the human race has a preference to some creature on this planet. However, to understand the needs of a companion animal and their behaviors prior to obtaining one (or a couple) is to avoid future sorrows. To those who do want a dog or cat (or both) and feel that perhaps there is another one out there, other than the one that is already in care - wait! Like in any relationship, understanding one another is the key!! As the site builds, we offer solutions to troubled caretakers of companion animals and other solutions to prevent the killing of animals that are otherwise family members. The Basics.....
According to the Denver Post, 3,000 puppies/kittens are born every hour in the United States alone.... according to the Humane Society, anywhere from 8-10 Million will be euthanized within the year - according to researchers, only 1 in 5 will find a forever home... so why are animals permitted to be born, just to die!? It really begins with..... 1.) Responsible Pet Ownership as the key to lesser births, lesser surrenders and education towards a better understanding of a pet's needs. 2.) Public Awareness and demands, on local Governments about the importance of pets in people's lives. 3.) Law Changes that protect pet caretakers and basically, companion animals. No Kill Advocates Union, is a Global effort by people of like mind. We seek to hinder over population through awareness, education and humanely finding solutions to lower the numbers of animals surrendered to pounds through proven programs that work. We seek to encourage the many health benefits of Spaying and Neutering. We seek rights as tax payers and animal rights - to protect the innocent. We disapprove of and highly discourage the fact that our hard earned tax paying dollars are used to kill animals,. We want to see self sustained facilities and we want to see lesser animals in dire need. HOW? Follow us to find the answers! Say No Kill - Our Way!
