*** Picture Taking: People LOVE Pictures! Do you have a specialty chair - a fanned rattan or wicker chair that would make a nice background?Use it to take pics of people with their pets!!! Or do family pictures - kids and their pets, mom, dad, kids and pets - make it something special....-- Do a "Paw Print" specialty that includes a real paw print of a family pet that is placed on the cardboard frame......Polaroid or Digital camera works great! *Note: when using digital, your problem may be that people don't want to wait for their photos and you MUST be sure you get people's names and emails correct so you aren't sending out pictures to the wrong people) Do the pics at a local park, in front of a flower garden, waterfall or back drop...Ask a cpl of photographers where locals get their wedding pics done, even if you have to pretend to be a bride who is seeking a nice spot for pictures, do it! When using a polaroid, you have instant results - larger photo shops or even Wal-mart sell cardboard framed cards that you can place the picture in, keeping it safe till it gets home or can be used as the frame. We use to charge $5.00 (cdn) maybe charge anywhere from $7.99 to $9.99 (marketing experts say that anything under $10 is more acceptable to the general population) Do a photo shoot for Family Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas... Have Fun! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- **** Pop Bottle Collections: Pop bottles/cans, beer cans, milk containers - anything that you can recycle for $$ - adds up! Ask if you can place special containers for collections at local Flea Markets - Malls and other well known public places. (plastic garbage cans with lids are great, you can drill a hole through the handles and snap lid to pull a plastic coated wired bike lock and tie them down! Then all you need is a sign to glue onto them so people know that it's for cans) It all adds up! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **** Have a Poker Night or Tournament: Depending on your location, many love to gamble! Make it interesting, dress for the occasion (white shirt, black vest and pants along with a red bow tie for guys and gals) make it special and give those who attend something to talk about for "next" time! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **** Pet Food & Accessories Gift Baskets: Contact companies - Use Baskets at other people's events, they don't necessarily have to be at one of your events - pet owners attend all kinds of events....If you're holding a specific event or know of a hit event in your community, step up and offer a gift basket at a cost of a percentage of their tickets sold for the event (as a contribution to your organization).Contact pet food companies (here's a list that does not test on animals http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=385273669394 ) and give them a brief on what you're doing... tell them you'd like to promote their products by making a gift basket of their products as a give-away or door prize draw (remember when you do a raffle, get your required permits so you don't have any problems) and ask if they'd be willing to send you samples - free. (no harm in asking, you just may surprise yourself at your responses) Be sure to stick your business card inside the gift basket ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- **** Garage Sale(s)Ask volunteers, friends, staff if they have something to donate towards a garage sale. Depending on your locality, you may be able to hold a few over a period of a few months. Some areas/cities/towns, only permit a certain number of garage sales annually per resident, so just a heads up on the legalities. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- *******Handmade Bracelets or Necklaces*********** Scouting around yard sales, craft sales and even second hand shops or thrift stores, will help gain all the accessories you need if you're on a really tight budget.Hardware stores sell a thick black thread type string in a roll, that can be used as the base of the accessory you're making.Beads can be found by the bag or with purchases of old custom jewelery. Mix and match beads.Specialty beads with the Alphabet can be bought and used to make the bracelet or necklace - spelling a pet's name....If you are weaving a bracelet, weave in the shape of a Paw ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- **** Flea Market Bake Sales/Pet Toys/Handmade Beds/Accessories -A lot of times, some flea markets will give you a price reduction for a booth or tables when you are a non profit or seeking to raise money....Don't be shy in telling them that you're main objective is to help animals and bring some joy into people's lives with a new companion! Hinder Pet population with Spay and Neuters ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ***** Pot Luck Picnics -Media is usually co-operative when they know that you are holding an event that is to help a local shelter/rescue and is family oriented.Get creative with Face-Painters, Balloon Artists, potato bag races, scavenger hunts for kids and adults, apple bobbing contests and prizes for those who win the small competitions - ask local merchants to participate with small gifts or surprise bags and again, ask pet food companies to help promote their products, with samples that you can put together as a main draw on tickets that have been purchased to attend such an event.Be sure to keep your prices low so that it appeals to families and the public. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- *****Used Book Sales: gather your friends, neighbors and family by collecting used books in good condition. Use a church basement, your local community hall or even a flea market to sell your books - cheap! Get out posters, ask the local newspaper if they'll put a blurb in for you since it's for a good cause, tell your local tv station if you've collected quite a collection! If you're really an enthusiast, make a list and post it off your facebook! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- *****Hold a Silent Auction: try to accumulate at least 150 auction items.
